Manage Multiple Database Vendors With One Tool
AQUA DATA STUDIO PRESENTATION TRANSCRIPT
Hi this is Rich and today I'd like to share with you a very cool piece of software that I discovered called Aqua Data Studio.
Now as you can probably tell today I'm actually doing a remote while onsite at one of my client's sites, so I'm literally phoning this in - I hope the quality isn't too bad but just in case I'll provide a transcription for you below.
Aqua Data Studio is a database management and development tool - among other things - it's really a giant application and does many things - But folks who do database programming, administration and data analysis are most likely to get the most out of a tool like this. It's made by a company called Aquafold and I've included their website and info on the screen below.
Now, if you're like me and do consulting and contracting work for more than 1 client this tool is probably going to pay for itself right off the bat. It used to be that most of my clients only ever used 1 main database vendor for all of their operations and applications - so you only ever really needed one tool to manage and develop against that single database. Well times have changed, and now I find myself working with multiple databases for a single client, and if you have multiple clients, then, things can get a little tricky with the software you need to work with those databases. And this is really where Aqua Data Studio shines - so let me show you what I'm talking about:
Screen movies
· Set up screens for connecting to the various databases - 1 tool for connecting to all of those databases
· Easy to use GUI for command line operations, but raw SQL if desired
· Build tables easily
· Excellent tools for troubleshooting someone else's database code: Diff feature
· Creating an ER diagram very cool!
Like I said earlier this really is a giant piece of software and as you've seen I haven't even scratched the surface for all that it can do.
Everything always has pluses and minuses, so briefly - the pluses:
· One tool for many databases
· Allows you to focus on the database and it's content and relieves you from managing more tools specific to a particular database.
· Outstanding support via email, has worked faster for me than waiting on hold to talk to someone at another software vendor's support line.
· Some would argue that the one time cost of $399 is a minus, but the value provided and the time it has saved me has already paid for itself, so I'm citing the cost as a plus.
And finally the minuses:
· Not to contradict myself, but - yeah, it costs $399 ;-)
· It won't completely replace all of the functionality that some of the major database vendors native applications currently provide, but to be honest I've yet to hit any roadblocks with this
